Esports Industry Research — A Hidden Economy of Opportunity

Case Study | Research & Market Opportunity Analysis

What began as a casual exploration into “extreme gaming” quickly turned into a deep dive into the booming world of Esports, revealing a massive and rapidly evolving industry driven by sponsorships, competition, and untapped financial potential.

Key Insights

  • Esports isn’t just play—it’s big business, with top players earning millions and games like Fortnite generating over $3.9 billion annually.

  • Our research revealed a critical gap: young players lack legal and financial representation as they compete for a small share of the revenue while game creators and sponsors take the lion’s share.

  • We identified a major opportunity to develop player-focused management services and a dedicated social platform to help gamers manage tournament earnings, sponsorships, and contracts.

  • The industry also opens career paths beyond gaming itself—from shoutcasters to event managers—creating a broader Esports ecosystem worth further exploration.

This case study emphasized how design research can reveal underserved audiences in emerging markets, and opened up pathways for future product innovation in digital entertainment and athlete advocacy.

eSports Career Path Pitch – End-to-End Video Production

This video project was created as a compelling pitch for an eSports platform aimed at helping kids explore professional opportunities in the gaming industry, while also guiding parents through the evolving landscape of gaming as a legitimate career path. I led the entire production from start to finish: conceptualizing the narrative, illustrating visual elements, writing and recording the script, narrating the voiceover, and producing the final video.

The opening scene was personally filmed with the help of my son and wife, adding an authentic and relatable tone right from the start. The goal was to bridge the generational gap—offering parents a clear view of how they can support their child’s passion, while empowering kids to better understand the structure, opportunities, and professional potential within the eSports community. Every frame was crafted with clarity and purpose to deliver both inspiration and insight.
